It has been revealed that a new renewable energy contract is to go ahead, with a 36 turbine wind farm set to be opened in Stornoway. Once complete, the farm will generate enough energy to power around 60,000 homes and will create 75 new employment opportunities.
The renewable energy sector is becoming big business, and it is an area that recruitment agencies should pay close attention to. The government is currently looking to the sector to offer Britain’s future power and is putting a lot of time and money into developing the industry. Over the coming years several projects are set to begin construction, with recruitment agencies set to be vital in supplying companies with employees with the required skills.
Talking of the latest Stornoway project, Fergus Ewing, energy minister, said: “I’m delighted to consent the Stornoway wind farm, which will represent a significant boost to the economy of the Western Isles and create jobs during construction and in the longer term. Once it is up and running, the wind farm will save thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and will produce enough electricity to power more than 60,000 homes.”
The new wind farm project has been announced after PricewaterhouseCoopers recently revealed that around 100,000 more workers were needed in Edinburgh if the Scottish capital is to keep its presence as an energy leader. With many renewable projects going ahead north of the border, there are set to be some large employment opportunities in coming years.
