Although recent figures released by one of the leading online recruitment companies have shown that year-on-year there has been a zero per cent growth in online recruitment, the month-on-month figures have shown some improvements in recent months, leading to a returning optimism within the market.
The engineering sector saw the largest boost with online activity showing a three per cent increase last month. However, it has now slipped to second place as the fastest growing sector at nine per cent. Engineering is behind the public sector, including defence and community, which saw a staggering 24 per cent increase, despite government cuts that are taking their toll on the sector.
Online job growth grew the most in the Midlands with the region seeing an eight per cent rise in the availability of jobs advertised online, while the North of England showed a positive two per cent growth. These were the only two regions to experience growth during the period for which the figures covered.
Speaking about the results, a spokesperson for the company said: “Despite some stagnation in the economy, not all is bad in the UK’s labour market. We’ve retained the same level of online job demand as this time last year and have seen significant growth across many professional industries including transport, hospitality, engineering, and the public sector.”
Despite many areas not showing any growth, it is being taken as a positive sign that there was no decline either.
