Though Britain may still officially be in a recession, it has been shown in a new jobs index that the number of job vacancies has risen in 70% of the country’s employment sectors. The latest data from the Reed Job Index indicated that 10 out of the 12 British regions had seen job gains, whilst some of the highest pressured markets, such as education and health, had noted the largest leaps in job openings.
During times of recession, employment levels may be low. However, recruitment agencies might be glad to know that the latest figures revealed that there had been a 22% rise in the number of available jobs in the health and medicine sector. Meanwhile, the voluntary and charity industry saw vacancies rise by 19%, whilst the number of openings for educational jobs grew by 18%.
The latest job index also looked into regional growth, and found that the majority of British areas had also seen rises in job vacancies. Whilst the East Midlands led the way with a 10% rise in jobs, Scotland and the South West tied in second place with 7% rises.
Talking of the optimistic results, job expert and marketing director Mark Rhodes expressed that May had proved to be a particularly buoyant month. “While the UK is still technically in recession, these figures point towards a growing confidence among UK employers and we’re cautiously optimistic about the prospects for continued jobs growth over the coming month, though recruiters will be keeping a keen eye on developments in the eurozone,” Mr Rhodes said.
